Ways to Get Involved

Parent Committees

As a parent of a child enrolled in Head Start or Early Head Start, you are automatically a member of the Parent Committee at your Head Start location.  The Parent Committee will provide you with many opportunities to be involved in your child’s education, to assist in the operation of your Head Start Center, and to grow through leadership and teamwork.

Through the Parent Committee, parents can participate in all aspects of Head Start, such as:

  • Make decisions about the design and operaton of Head Start locally
  • Work on committees and provide leadership
  • Assist teachers in the classroom
  • Read to the children
  • Coordinate parent social activities
  • Assist with field trips
  • Work on the center newsletter
  • Develop at home activities
  • Help plan menus

For more in-depth information on program governance and the vital role parents play, talk with your Head Start Center manager.

Volunteer Opportunities

Head Start relies on many types of volunteers to create the nurturing environment healthy children need.  Parents, friends, family and members of the community are all welcome!  Ask about opportunities at your Head Start Center.

Many programs offered by YWCA Metro St. Louis also rely on volunteers.  Check out all our volunteer opportunities.
